Shri. S.L. Devarmani, a 72-year-old senior athlete and retired Indian Defence Service personnel, has been selected to represent India at the prestigious World Masters Athletic Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, from August 13 to 25, 2024. Despite his age, Devarmani continues to make the country proud by participating in international events and has visited countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Dubai recently.
A remarkable figure in the world of athletics, Devarmani will compete in the 10 km run, 5 km run, and walking events at the championship. Over his illustrious career, he has amassed an impressive collection of 400 medals since his college days. However, this journey comes with a significant financial burden.
The total expenses for his participation, including travel and accommodation, amount to approximately Rs. 3 Lakh. As a retired serviceman running a small Kirana store in Chennamma Nagar, Devarmani requires financial support to fulfill his dream of competing at this esteemed event.
The Masters Athletic Federation of India has already extended an invitation to him, highlighting the need for urgent financial assistance to ensure his participation.
